First-half goals from Saber Khelifa and Fabrice Ehret prove enough for Evian Thonon Gaillard to earn a 2-0 home win against Valenciennes in Ligue 1.

Evian Thonon Gaillard have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation from Ligue 1 this season with a 2-0 home win against Valenciennes.

Saber Khelifa gave the hosts the lead after just two minutes when he fired in from outside the box after being teed up by Fabrice Ehret.

Ten minutes later it became 2-0 to Evian TG as Khelifa turned provider for Fabrice Ehret to shoot home from just yards out.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings at Parc des Sports as Daniel Wass and Mohammed Rabiu tried their luck from distance but in vain, before Khelifa saw his shot saved by Nicolas Penneteau before the half-time interval.

The second half saw little meaningful action in its opening 15 minutes, after which Fabrice Ehret and Mohammed Rabiu had opportunities for Evian.
