Eintracht Braunschweig pile on misery for Hamburger SV

Braunschweig pile on misery for Hamburg

Hamburger SV's miserable season continued in the Bundesliga on Saturday as they went down 4-2 to bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig.

The game started with a fair bit of tension, which was not surprising given the league standings, with only Havard Nielsen's blocked effort anything like a chance in the opening 10 minutes.

The return of Pierre-Michel Lasogga was looking key and the striker had an effort from the edge of the box saved by Daniel Davari in the home goal.

Lasogga did not have to wait long to open the scoring as used his strength to head in a Marcell Jansen corner from a tricky angle.

Despite being ahead at the break, Hamburg's nerves did not disappear and they were pegged back six minutes after the restart. Dominick Kumbela reacted quickest to a corner to fire high into the net.

It got better for the hosts as 10 minutes later they were in front. Mirko Boland's free kick was not defended well and Kumbela got there first to poke in for his second of the day.

The game exploded into life following Braunschweig's second. With 15 minutes left to play Ivo Ilicevic scored a leveller for Hamburg, but on 85 minutes Kumbela added his second of the game to put the hosts in front again.

It remained end-to-end, but deep into stoppage time the points were safe for the home side with Jan Hochscheidt slotting in low after being found by Karim Bellarabi.
