Rangers thrash Dunfermline Athletic to move 14 points clear

Rangers extend their lead at the top of Scottish League One to 14 points courtesy of a comfortable 4-0 away win over Dunfermline Athletic.

Rangers have extended their lead at the top of Scottish League One to 14 points courtesy of a 4-0 win over second-placed Dunfermline Athletic this evening.

Rangers almost took the lead after just five minutes when Sam Smith latched on to a loose header but couldn't get his left-footed effort on target.

Cameron Bell was forced into action twice in quick succession for Rangers, first tipping Steven Husband's flicked header over the bar before gathering Ryan Wallace's curling effort.

The visitors got the opener in the 22nd minute when Fraser Aird cut inside from the right before drilling a low strike past Ryan Scully in the Dunfermline goal.

Jon Daly had a glorious chance to double this lead shortly before half time, but his close-range effort was well saved by Scully.

Aird should have had a second right on the stroke of the break when he pounced on a fumbled effort, but this time his strike was cleared off the line.

The visitors finally extended their lead six minutes after the restart as Daly flicked the ball on from a corner and Nicky Clark applied the finishing touch from close range.

The third goal came with 20 minutes of the match remaining when Lewis McLeod slipped the ball through to Nicholas Law, who kept his composure to slide it past Scully.

Robbie Crawford put the icing on the cake for the league leaders with a fourth goal in stoppage time at the end of the match, taking their unbeaten start to the season to 17 games.
