Didier Drogba: 'Chelsea can continue to progress'

Didier Drogba believes that reigning Premier League champions Chelsea can "progress together" as a squad in the coming years.

Didier Drogba has suggested that the previous Chelsea squad put together by Jose Mourinho is better than the current group of players.

The Blues stormed to the Premier League title last season, matching the feat of 10 years ago when they prevailed for the first time.

Drogba, who left Chelsea this summer for pastures new, believes that the side he featured in last year still has room for improvement.

"I would say the first one was better because I was involved more as a player, but there is a difference in the way that when I joined the team it was a bit more mature," he told BT Sport.

"Frank [Lampard], [Claude] Makelele, William Gallas - all these players were I think around 24, 25 and plus, so this time it's younger and I can see and I can feel that there is a gap, it can progress together so it's good for the players."

Drogba is still currently without a club, but he is reportedly close to agreeing terms at New York Red Bulls.
