A first-half goal from Gonzalo Rodriguez was enough for Fiorentina to secure a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the International Champions Trophy at Stamford Bridge.

The defender tapped in the only goal of the match midway through the first half after his side had forced a string of saves from Asmir Begovic.

Gary Cahill and Loic Remy both had chances to equalise late on, but the Premier League champions were unable to avoid defeat in their final match before the start of the new season.

Good evening! It's just under an hour until kickoff at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea will be putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the start of the new season in a match against Italian side Fiorentina. The hosts have already announced their team for the game, so let's start with a look at the lineups.

CHELSEA STARTING XI: Begovic, Cuadrado, Zouma, Terry, Aina, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Traore, Oscar, Moses, Falcao

CHELSEA SUBSTITUTES: Courtois, Blackman, Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Matic, Fabregas, Ramires, Hazard, Willian, Remy

It's safe to say from Chelsea's starting lineup that Jose Mourinho already has one eye on the weekend. With Diego Costa likely to miss the opening Premier League match of the season, the injury-prone Loic Remy is left on the bench, giving Radamel Falcao a chance to get some more minutes under his belt after making his debut for the club in the Community Shield. It's been well documented that Cesar Azpilicueta is the only left-back it the squad for Chelsea, but Mourinho has left him out too, presumably to give the likes of Zouma and Aina and chance to show their flexibility at the back.

Here's a look at the home side arriving at Stamford Bridge a short while ago:

One interesting sub-plot to this fixture is the Mohamed Salah transfer saga. The Chelsea man spent the second half of last season on loan with the Serie A side, who had hoped to make the move permanent in the summer. However, it's expected that the Egyptian will complete a move to Roma instead. It's been reported that Fiorentina have called in their lawyers as a result, believing that they had an agreement giving them first dibs on the winger.

We're still waiting for the Fiorentina team news, but they could hand a debut to former Atletico Madrid striker Mario Suarez, who is yet to play for the club. It would be a surprise to see Federico Bernardeschi drop out though, as he scored both goals for Fiorentina in their 2-1 win over Barcelona at the weekend.

Rather surprisingly, this will be the first ever meeting between these two sides. Despite both clubs featuring regularly in the European competitions, their paths have never crossed before. Mourinho will know all about the side though, having spent a couple of years with Inter Milan.

FIORENTINA STARTING XI: Sepe, Rodriguez, Junior, Tomovic, Alonso, Vecino, Fernandez, Suarez, Roncaglia, Rebic, Babacar

FIORENTINA SUBSTITUTES: Tatarusanu, Lezzerini, Hegazy, Bagadur, Badelj, Joaquin, Valero, Ilicic, Bernardeschi, Fazzi, Rossi

Wow, that's a whopping seven changes to the side that beat Barcelona just three days ago. Fiorentina are still at the start of their pre-season programme, and have a new coach who is clearly still learning about his squad, but that's still somewhat surprising. Defensive pair Gonzalo Rodriguez and Nenad Tomovic continue, as do Matias Fernandez and Facundo Roncaglia in midfielder. It's all change elsewhere though as Luigi Sepe is preferred to Ciprian Tatrusanu between the posts, while Mario Suarez makes his debut.

Goalkeeper Sepe is a new signing for the visitors this season, joining them on loan from Serie A rivals Napoli. There only other new arrival so far this summer is Gilberto Junior, who also starts this evening.

The Fiorentina squad have been getting acclimatised to their surroundings at Stamford Bridge in preparation for kickoff:

While the start of the Premier League season is just a couple of days away, there's still more than two weeks to go before Fiorentina will be back in action in the Italian top flight. Their season kicks off on August 23, with a tricky tie at home against AC Milan in their first match of the campaign.

As we've already mentioned, Fiorentina have a new coach for this season. Former Portuguese international Paulo Sousa takes charge of the side after guiding Basel to the title in the Swiss Super League last season. His name should be a familiar one to British fans too, as he's previously managed at QPR, Leicester City and Swansea City. His other managerial honours include an Israeli Premier League title with Maccabi Tel Aviv, and three domestic cups with Hungarian side Videoton.

Probably the least well-known of Chelsea's starting XI this evening is 18-year-old defender Ola Aina. He's been part of Chelsea's youth system since he was 10, and penned a profession deal with the club on his 17th birthday. He was part of the side that helped the club win the UEFA Youth League title last season, which was enough for him to secure a spot on their pre-season tour at the USA.

Another situation to follow this evening will be the goalkeepers. Thibaut Courtois unseated Petr Cech last season, resulting in the veteran leaving the club this summer. Asmir Begovic has come in from Stoke City, and has been handed the number one shirt. Courtois started the Community Shield on Sunday, but it's the Bosnian who gets the nod tonight. Mourinho probably just wants to make sure everyone gets minutes, but a strong performance tonight from Begovic will ask some questions of Courtois.

Radamel Falcao has been introduced to the crowd ahead of his first start in the blue of Chelsea:

PREDICTION! It won't be too long before the players are running out of the tunnel at Stamford Bridge, so there's just time to make a prediction. Chelsea have named a young side with one eye on the weekend, and haven't won a match in 90 minutes in pre-season yet, while Fiorentina come in off a confidence-boosting win over Barcelona. The Italian side won't be an easy opponent for Mourinho's men, but the home advantage should just give them the edge, so I'm going for a 2-1 win to the Premier League champions.

If you are a Chelsea fan, don't forget we'll have live coverage of the team's opening match of the season against Swansea City from an hour before kickoff, as well as loads of team news, post-match reaction and player ratings.

The player make their way out ready for the start of the match. Fiorentina are wearing their mainly white away kit, while Chelsea are in their famous all-blue strip.

Mourinho and Sousa are deep in conversation on the sideline as kickoff approaches, maybe talking about Mohamed Salah?

KICKOFF! It's the hosts who get the action underway.

CHANCE! Asmir Begovic has to make a save just over a minute into the tie as Marcos Alonso plays the ball down the left before crossing in to Matias Fernandez, who was completely unmarked on the edge of the box. He rushes in to strike it at the first time of asking, but a diving save from the Bosnia international keeps it out.

Chelsea try to get involved in the Fiorentina box for the first time, with Oscar curling in a free kick from 30 yards out. It's Ruben Loftus-Cheek who rises highest, but he can only head the ball over.

Cuadrado, who is playing against his old club after joining Chelsea at the start of the year, plays the ball inside to Oscar, who goes to drive the ball in from 20 yards out, but Gilberto is on the edge of the block to make the block. Chelsea are starting to pile forward and have seen the majority of the possession so far.

Victor Moses tries to get involved, attempting to shake off his marker before passing out wide to Bertrand Traore, who has returned from a loan spell with Vitesse. The Burkina Faso international is seeing a lot of the ball in the opening stages, but he and Moses are unable to threaten the Fiorentina goal.

CHANCE! Loftus-Cheek has been involved at both ends so far, and he comes close again as Moses picks the midfielder out with an excellent through-ball. The England Under-21 international skips around a couple of defenders before trying to squeeze the ball past Roncaglia, but the Fiorentina man pulls off a superb block.

Chelsea force a corner as Tomovic is forced to turn a Traore cross behind. Oscar tries to curl it back in, but Cuadrado is slow to react as the ball balls to him, giving Fiorentina time to get it clear. The Colombian sprints forward again moments later looking to make amends, but he can't quite take it all the way. Chelsea's other Colombian, Falcao, has been pretty quiet so far.

CHANCE! Chelsea are really knocking on the door as a pass in the box from Moses is deflected into the path of Ola Aina. The youngster attempts an ambitious effort from the edge of the box, and Roncaglia deflects it wide for a corner.

Fiorentina have been quiet since threatening inside the opening two minutes, but they force a free kick in a promising position. Fernandez delivers is well, but Terry muscles his way to it first to put it behind for a corner, which Zouma is able to clear.

Falcao is yet to really make any impact on this match, but he's almost through on goal as Moses plays it into the striker, who is in an excellent position, but Gonzalo Rodriguez just gets goalside of him to get it away.

Gonzalo Rodriguez is in trouble for a foul on Falcao around 25 yards out. Oscar goes straight for goal with the resulting set piece, but fails to trouble Luigi Sepe. Although Chelsea have had by far the better of the ball so far, the Fiorentina keeper is yet to really be tested.

A couple of silly fouls are just starting to fly in from the visitors as Moses is shoved down by Khouma Babacar, but the home side are unable to create anything from the resulting free kick.

Fiornetina are on the attack again, but Fernandez just about keeping himself onside before controlling the ball and whipping the ball in across the face of goal, but Zouma was there to hook it clear for the hosts. Despite the slow build up, Fiorentina just didn't get the numbers forward in time to help out the midfielder.

Traore comes out of nowhere to try to win the ball back off Gilberto, which seems to leave the Brazilian defender in some pain, but he's quickly back on his feet.

OFF THE BAR! What a stunning striker from Matias Vecino to almost give Fiorentina the lead. Alonso has the initial striker, but John Terry gets it clear. Vecino rushes in from the centre, viciously striking the ball on the half volley, but it's just kept out by the woodwork.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Fiorentina (Gonzalo Rodriguez)

Asmir Begovic pulls off another stunning save to deny Marcos Alonso, but the ball is parried as part as Gonzalo Rodriguez, and the defender doesn't have to be asked twice, jabbing the ball across the line from close range. The home side look to the referee for an offside flag, but the officials see no reason not to award it.

A back pass to Luigi Sepe almost catches the Fiorentina keeper out, with Falcao closing in on the Italian, but he recovers from a poor first touch to get it away just in time.

Rodriguez is involved again as the visitors try to add to their lead. He finds Tomovic with a long ball out from the back, who slides it forward for Babacar, but Zouma is there is force the ball out of play off the Fiorentina striker. The Italians are finishing the first half really strongly though.

Marcos Alonso tries to take the ball into the Chelsea box, with Begovic reacts quickly, coming off his line. The goalkeeper almost messes it up though as he slips before he reaches the midfielder, but just gets enough contact on it to divert it away from his feet.

Fiorentina are continuing to look the more likely as the interval approaches, pressing towards the Chelsea box again, but the hosts do just enough to force Alonso to put it behind for a goal kick.

Gilberto and Tomovic pass the ball around at the back as the visitors just try to run down the remaining moments before the break. It's certainly been the Italian side's first half.

HALF TIME: Chelsea 0-1 Fiorentina

So at the interval it's just Gonzalo Rodriguez's goal that separates the sides, but Fiorentina could have easily been further ahead after rattling the crossbar and forcing a couple of decent saves from Asmir Begovic, while Luigi Sepe remains relatively untroubled down the other end. There's work to do for Jose Mourinho during the interval.

In the International Champions Cup, both sides have 11 substitutions available to them. So there could be wholesale changes to come early in the second half, or the managers could stagger their changes throughout the second spell. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Mourinho in particular forced into changes shortly after the restart.

The home side have been using a young and somewhat experimental back four, and they've been exposed far too often so far tonight. Ola Aina and Kurt Zouma have both had a few bright moments, but have been out of position too many times at the back.

Incidentally, while the men's side is surely getting a few harsh words from Mourinho in the dressing room, Chelsea Women are on the pitch in the break, parading the FA Cup that they won for the first time at the weekend.

Chelsea had more of the possession in the first half with 53%, and had one more shot that the visitors with 7. However, they haven't had a single effort on target, while four of Fiorentina's six efforts were accurate.

The players are starting to make their way back out ready for the start of the second half, and it looks like there are going to be changes for the hosts. As soon as we can confirm all the subs we'll bring them to you.

SUBS! It's four changes for the hosts as Terry, Aina, Mikel and Traore make way for Ivanovic, Cahill, Azpilicueta and Matic.

SUB! The visitors also make a change with Giuseppe Rossi coming of for Khouma Babacar.

RESTART! Fiorentina get the match back underway.

That's now a much more experienced and familiar lineup at the back for the hosts. They're not needed yet though as Moses makes a superb run through the middle before playing the ball through to Oscar, but a heavy touch from the Brazilian denies him the chance to get a shot away.

Moses is brought down on the left flank, giving the home side a free kick in a promising position, but Oscar's delivery doesn't come to anything. Ivanovic soon comes forward to get it back i the Fiorentina box, forcing Sepe into action as he comes off his line to punch it clear. Meanwhile, Moses is looking slightly pained as he slumps to the turf, seemingly still struggling from the challenge moments earlier.

BOOKING! Yes, in a friendly, the referee has had to reach for the cards, and frankly it's thoroughly deserved. Cuadrado is almost clear through on goal just outside the box, but Facundo Roncaglis cynically pulls him down by his shirt, earning him the yellow card.

CHANCE! Oscar sends the ball in from the free kick, but Cahill's header flies well wide.

SUB! Victor Moses can't shake off that earlier challenge, so Mourinho sends Ramires on in his place. The manager will be hoping it's nothing serious, as the pacy midfielder has put in a decent shift.

Ramires tries to make an immediate impact as Oscar takes a short free kick to the midfielder, who then look to cross it into the middle, but it's blocked and goes out for a throw in.

SUBS There are more changes for the hosts as OScar, Falcao, Loftus-Cheek and Cuadrado all make way, with Fabregas, Hazard, Remy and Willian all coming on for the final half hour

SUBS! Fiorentina are keeping the fourth official busy too with four changes. Rodriguez, Tomovic, Gilberto and Fernandez head off, with Hegazy, Joquin, Pasqual ad Ilicic all coming on. Mourinho comes over to see what's taking so long, and it seems the fourth official is struggling with the board somewhat. It's a Football League officiating crew this evening, and it seems the chap is not used to the board or so many changes all at once!

After a couple of minutes of disruption for all the substitutions, Chelsea try to catch Sepe out with a quick attack, with Hazard and Willian teaming up straight away, but the goalkeeper just about manages to make the clearance. The on-loan stopper really doesn't look comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Fiorentina patiently play their way back towards the Chelsea box, with a superb cross from Suarez almost finding Rossi, who would just have needed the slightest of headers, but he can't quite get to it to nod it past Begovic.

A quick burst from midfield by Willian sets up Azpilicueta, who squares it to Remy on the edge of the box. The striker tries to turn towards goal, but he's being closely marked by Hegazy, and takes a tumble before he troubles the keeper.

CHANCE! Josip Ilicic comes close to doubling Fiorentina's lead as he skips into the Chelsea box before trying to drill the goal into the bottom right corner, but it swerves just right of the post.

It's end to end stuff at the moment as Chelsea are soon back down the other end, with Willian chipping the ball inside for Fabregas, who in turn finds Remy, but the striker's attempt is blocked by Pasqual. Cahill wins it back and tries to get it back in for the home side, but the chance has gone.

CHANCE! Chelsea's best chance of the match so far falls to Gary Cahill as Fabregas crosses the ball in from a free kick. The defender jumps up high to try to head it in, but his finish is straight at Sepe, who just about holds on to it. That's the first time the keeper has had to make a save under pressure.

SUBS! There are yet more changes for Fiorentina as Vecino, Suarez and Rebic are all going off, making way for Bernardeschi, Bagadur and Badelj. Once again, Mourinhi is in the fourth officials ear as he takes his time with the board, seemingly making sure he knows how much time will need to be added on at the end.

Bagudur's first involvement annoys his goalkeeper as a backpass to Sepe from the newly-introduced defender catches the keeper out, forcing him to concede a corner, which comes to nothing. Sepe is probably quite lucky that Chelsea haven't asked too much of him so far, because he's really struggled with simple tasks like back passes from his teammates.

Alonso puts the ball behind for a corner, which once again comes in from Fabregas, but the Fiorentina defenders soon get it clear. The Serie A side have looked pretty solid at the back tonight, protecting their somewhat shaky keeper well.

CHANCE! An excellent tackle in the box from Milan Badelj keeps Fiorentina ahead as Willian flicks the ball on for Remy, but the defender hacks it away. IT was risky, as the challenge had to be perfect, but he gets it right.

Chelsea are still pushing for an equaliser as the match heads into the final 10 minutes. Hazard has the ball around 20 yards out, but a rare wayward pass from the Belgian gives it straight back to the Italians.

BOOKING! Ahmed Hegazy is the second player to go in the book for a late challenge on Remy.

CHANCE! Gary Cahill has had more chances than any other player in the second half for Chelsea, but once again his finish is straight at Sepe, and the keeper gets his body behind in to make the low stop.

CHANCE! Remy manages to wrong-foot Pasqual to leave himself with bags of space in the box, and only Sepe to beat. He knows the he needs to go for a bottom corner if he wants to beat the keeper, but he gets it all wrong, slicing it well wide.

Time is rapidly running out for Chelsea as Ramires tries to get forward, but ends up fouling a defender. However, a poor free kick from Sepe gives Chelsea a chance to get it straight back in, but they don't get support forward quickly enough. Meanwhile, there are five minutes of stoppage time to be played.

There's a bit of a skirmish between the two sets of players as Zouma goes in high on Bagudur, who is watching a high ball come towards in. The Fiorentina players are furious, and the referee has to step in to separate them.

BOOKINGS! Zouma goes in the book for the tackle, while Nemanja Matic seems to have said something to the referee which earns him a yellow too, and Joaquin goes in the book for lashing out following the tackle.

Fabregas intercepts the ball in midfield, and tries to find Willian out wide, but it's a poor pass from the Spaniard, allowing the visitors to get it straight back.

FULL TIME: Chelsea 0-1 Fiorentina

So, Gonzalo Rodriguez's first-half tap in is enough to secure the win for Fiorentina. Chelsea still look a little rusty at times, while Fiorentina defended excellently throughout.

That's all from this match, but stick around as we'll have match analysis and player ratings to follow, and don't forget to join us again at the weekend for Chelsea's opening match of the Premier League season against Swansea. Until then, thanks for joining me this evening. Goodbye.
