Man City injury news and return dates before Chelsea clash: Bobb, Rodri Grealish latest

Bobb, Rodri, Grealish latest: Man City injury news ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester City begin the defence of their Premier League title for a fourth successive season when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their opening game of the 2024-25 season on Sunday.

The Citizens enter this contest in buoyant mood after beating rivals Manchester United on penalties to win the Community Shield last weekend, following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes at Wembley Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side had previously beaten Chelsea by a 4-2 scoreline in their final friendly fixture of their pre-season tour in the United States.

Ahead of Man City's trip to the capital this weekend, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news.

Oscar Bobb

Status: Out Type of injury: Leg fracture Possible return date: Unknown

Oscar Bobb, who was a standout performer for Man City in pre-season, is facing three to four months on the sidelines after he sustained a fracture to a bone in his leg during a non-contact situation in training.

Rodri

Status: Out Type of issue: Fitness Possible return date: August 24 (vs. Ipswich Town)

Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will not be involved against Chelsea as he is yet to return to training, at the time of writing, following an extended summer break. The midfielder's last appearance was for Spain when he came off at half time with a hamstring injury in the Euro 2024 final.

Jack Grealish

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Knock Possible return date: August 18 (vs. Chelsea)

Jack Grealish missed the Community Shield due to a knock, but he has since returned to training and could be ready to feature in some capacity on Sunday.

Phil Foden, Kyle Walker John Stones

Status: All minor doubts Type of issue: Fitness Possible return date: August 18 (vs. Chelsea)

None of England trio Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones took part in pre-season for Man City, nor did they feature in the Community Shield, and as they have only just returned to training this week, all three players are doubtful and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

MANCHESTER CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

Manchester City have no suspended players for this match.
