Central Coast Mariners edge out Sydney FC

Goals from Kim Seung-Yong and Mitchell Duke help Central Coast Mariners to a hard-fought win against Sydney FC.

Central Coast Mariners have secured a 2-1 victory in their home clash against Sydney FC.

The Mariners had the first chance, but Kim Seung-Yong's effort was kept out by Sydney goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic.

However, Kim soon found the back of the net with a long-range free kick to notch his first ever A-League goal.

Alessandro Del Piero showed that the visitors were a threat going forward, but Liam Reddy pushed away his free kick. Del Piero then had a couple of blasts on goal five minutes before the break.

Reddy had to be alert to deny the former Juventus striker early in the second half, but Richard Garcia pulled Sydney level when he tapped in from close range.

However, Mitchell Duke won the game for the Mariners when he fired a powerful effort past Janjetovic with 15 minutes remaining.
