Bastia banned from playing home fixtures

Bastia have been banned from playing home matches by the Ligue de Football Professionnel until further notice after violence marred the team's 2-1 home defeat to Marseille.

The Ligue 1 club were forced to play the game behind closed doors following a series of incidents in previous fixtures, but supporters threw a barrage of fireworks outside the ground.

"Regarding all the serious acts committed by some Bastia fans during this game and previous ones... the disciplinary commission has decided to bar the club from playing in their stadium until further notice," the LFP said in a statement.

A linesman was struck by a missile during Bastia's League Cup encounter with Lille. Fans also clashed with Ajaccio supporters and set off flares when the two clubs met in the Corsican derby in October.

Bastia currently lie in 15th in the Ligue 1 table and face a tough trip to champions Montpellier this weekend.
