Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Atletico Madrid

Barcelona injury, suspension list vs. Atletico

Barcelona will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 matches when they resume their La Liga campaign away to Atletico Madrid on Sunday night.

The Catalan outfit booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday courtesy of a 3-1 success over Napoli in the second leg of their last-16 tie.

Xavi's side were 1-0 winners over Mallorca in the league last time out, meanwhile, and they currently sit third in the La Liga table, eight points behind the leaders Real Madrid.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest with Atletico, who are fourth in the table, six points behind the reigning champions.

Frenkie de Jong

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

De Jong sustained a lateral ligament sprain in his right ankle in the clash with Athletic Bilbao on March 3, and the Netherlands international is now facing a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Pedri

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: Unknown

Barcelona are confident that the hamstring injury suffered by Pedri against Athletic is not as serious as first feared, and there is a chance that he could be back on the field at some stage in April.

Gavi

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Gavi sustained an ACL injury while representing Spain towards the end of last year, and the midfielder will not be available for selection until the 2024-25 campaign.

Alejandro Balde

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Balde underwent hamstring surgery at the end of January, and the Spain international will also be unavailable for selection until next season.

Marcos Alonso

Status: Out Type of injury: Back Possible return date: March 30 (vs. Las Palmas)

Alonso underwent back surgery earlier this year, and he remains unavailable for selection, but there is a chance that the defender could be in a matchday squad before the end of the month.

Ferran Torres

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: March 17 (vs. Atletico Madrid)

Torres was again absent against Napoli due to a thigh problem, but there is a chance that the Spanish attacker could be in the squad against Atletico this weekend.
