Ivan Rakitic to undergo surgery following finger fracture

Ivan Rakitic fracture needs surgery

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic will undergo surgery to heal the finger he fractured in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Croatian suffered an injury to a metacarpal bone in his left hand during Barcelona's 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League, and the club will announce his likely return date after the operation.

Despite the fracture, Rakitic played through until the final whistle as the Blaugrana were dumped out of the knockout stages by their Italian opponents.

Edin Dzeko, Danielle De Rossi and Kostas Manolas were on the scoresheet as Roma overturned a 4-1 scoreline from the first leg to surpass Barcelona on away goals.

Rakitic's side, who are top of La Liga on 79 points, have failed to reach the Champions League semi-finals for three years running.
