Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that it is a struggle to keep his fringe players happy, but is hopeful that Olivier Giroud will sign a new contract at the club.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he wants Olivier Giroud to renew his contract at the club.

The 30-year-old's current deal runs out at the end of next season and he has been linked with a move away from the Emirates having fallen behind Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order.

Wenger admitted that it is tough to keep all of his players happy, but is hopeful that Giroud will extend his stay in North London.

"How do we keep them all happy? Honestly I don't know. If you have only one striker, the press says 'why don't you buy another striker?' Once you buy one more they say 'how can you keep him happy?'" he told reporters.

"We are in a world where you have to know where you want to be and in my case I want Giroud to stay, I want Giroud to extend his contract. After he has to live with the competition and for me he is a very important player at the club, on the pitch and off the pitch.

"I want him to stay, he has to decide if he can live with what is going on but personally I like Giroud very much."

Giroud has not made a single Premier League start for the Gunners this season but has scored three goals in eight appearances off the bench.
