Permanent Martin Odegaard Arsenal move 'depends on Zinedine Zidane'

Permanent Odegaard Arsenal move 'depends on Zidane'

Arsenal could reportedly have a chance of signing Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal this summer if Zinedine Zidane keeps his position as Real Madrid boss.

The Norway international was allowed to move to the Gunners on loan during the January window, having struggled to hold down a regular position at the Bernabeu in the first half of the 2020-21 campaign.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague recently claimed that Arsenal had 'zero chance' of signing Odegaard on a long-term basis.

According to Eurosport, the Premier League club could have the opportunity to complete a permanent deal if Zidane remains in charge of Madrid as the Frenchman is not convinced by the attacker.

However, the report suggests that a change of head coach in the Spanish capital might mean that Odegaard will head back to the reigning La Liga champions for the 2021-22 campaign.

The 22-year-old has featured in two of Arsenal's last three Premier League matches, including as a substitute in Saturday's 1-0 defeat away to Aston Villa.
