Manchester City and Newcastle United are not planning to move for Chelsea attacker Mason Mount this summer, according to a report.

Manchester City and Newcastle United are reportedly not planning to move for Chelsea attacker Mason Mount during this summer's transfer window.

The England international's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with a number of clubs said to be keeping a close eye on his situation at Stamford Bridge.

Mount only has little over 12 months left to run on his contract with the Blues, and it is believed that the London club are unwilling to pay him the salary that he wants in order to stay.

A number of clubs, including Man City and Newcastle, have been credited with an interest in the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, according to Football Insider, neither the Premier League champions nor the unlikely top-four challengers are looking to sign Mount ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report claims that Newcastle are not prepared to pay Chelsea's asking price for Mount, while Man City are looking to strengthen in other areas of the field.

Liverpool and Arsenal could therefore lock horns for the signature of the Englishman, who has only managed three goals and six assists in 35 appearances at club level this season.

Mount has recently undergone surgery on a pelvic issue which has caused problems in recent weeks, and he now faces a huge battle to return before the end of the campaign.

The attacker has been with Chelsea since 2005, progressing through the various youth sides at the club before making his first-team debut in 2017.

Mount had two successful loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County respectably before becoming a first-team regular for Chelsea during the 2019-20 campaign.

In total, he has represented the London club on 195 occasions in all competitions, contributing 33 goals and 37 assists in the process.

Mount is believed to have asked Chelsea for a salary which would have made him one of the best-paid players at the club, but the Blues are in a difficult financial situation due to their spending in the last two windows.

There will also be no Champions League football at Stamford Bridge next season, with Frank Lampard's side currently sitting down in 12th position in the table.
