Jack Wilshere: Fans booing is "understandable"

Jack Wilshere admits that Arsenal deserved to be booed by their own fans in the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that the fans' reaction to their 3-1 opening day defeat at home to Aston Villa is fully "understandable".

Despite the Gunners taking the lead through Olivier Giroud, a Christian Benteke brace and a late effort from Antonio Luna condemned them to a poor home defeat.

"It's understandable," Wilshere told Sky Sports News. "We have to be winning home games, there's no other way round it.

"We have to win games. The fans pay their money to come and watch us, and we have to put in better performances than that. We have to believe and we've got to go again.

"It's a tough season, a long season. We have lost the opening game, which is not ideal, but the good thing about football is we have a week to turn it around."

Arsenal face Fenerbahce next in the Champions League qualifiers.
