Olivier Giroud: "I'm happy to be back"

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud admits that he is "happy to be back" after scoring in a brace at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has revealed that he is "happy to be back" after coming off the bench and scoring a brace during his side's 4-1 victory at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman has only made four appearances for the Gunners so far this term - all of them from the bench - as he battled with a toe injury, but opened his account for the season with a brace in the space of five second half-minutes at the Stadium of Light.

"If I could do that every single game I would be Superman," he told Sky Sports News afterwards. "I had a great assist from my teammates so I had to finish the job.

"This is big for me, coming back from a tough injury, so I'm happy to be back. I'm very happy to be back on the pitch, and I'm taking a lot of pleasure from today obviously. It's nice for myself and the team, it's always good for a striker to score.

"At the end we made it look easy but it was totally the reverse. We were exposed in the second half so it was nice to score the second. It was nice to finish the job."

The result kept Arsenal joint top of the Premier League with Manchester City.
