Abdel Said wins speed class on final day of Horse of the Year Show

Egyptian showjumper Abdel Said takes top honours in the speed class at the Horse of the Year Show.

Egyptian showjumper Abdel Said has claimed first prize in the speed class at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

Said collected the first-prize cheque of £6,600 by guiding Naiky d'Elca to a clear winning round in a time of 50.17 seconds.

The 23-year-old told The Telegraph that his pacy horse needed to be managed carefully in order to ensure success.

He said: "I knew I had a very fast horse so I knew I didn't have to overdo it. It was a case of making the tight turns."

Britain's Robert Whittaker missed out on a place in the top three by less by then half a second to Holland's Albert Zoer.

Hertfordshire teenager Chloe Aston marked her 18th birthday by finishing as the second-highest British competitor in seventh spot.
