Tom Daley wins British diving trials to all but guarantee 2016 Rio Olympics berth

Daley closes in on Olympics qualification

Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley has all but secured his place at the 2016 Rio Olympics with victory at the British diving trials in Sheffield.

The 22-year-old totalled 507.95 from his six routines to finish ahead of Matty Lee (428.00) and Noah Williams (389.05) and put him on the verge of a Great Britain berth for this summer's Games.

"There were a lot of positives and I'm happy how my dives are progressing," Daley told BBC Sport.

"My consistency has certainly gone up over the last 12 months, particularly with the new dive.

"Every time I go into competition, I'm getting more confident of getting the big scores, which is what I'll need if I'm to challenge for an Olympic gold medal."

Scotland's Grace Reid is also expected to be named in the Team GB lineup after winning the 3m springboard title.
