Great Britain's Tom Daley, Rebecca Gallantree win historic World Championships gold

Tom Daley and Rebecca Gallantree win diving gold for Great Britain in the mixed team event at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan.

Great Britain have won two medals at a FINA World Championships for the first time thanks to Tom Daley and Rebecca Gallantree clinching gold in the mixed team event.

It was the first time that the event, which takes place on the 3m springboard and 10m platform, has ever been included in the World Championships schedule.

Daley and Gallantree posted a total score of 434.65 from their six dives in Kazan to finish 8.20 points ahead of Ukraine's Oleksandr Gorshkovosov and Iuliia Prokopchuk, who surged into the silver-medal position with a high-scoring final round.

The Ukranians' surprise finish pushed China down into bronze and silenced the crowed by squeezing hosts Russia out of the medal positions to fourth.

For Daley, it is his first medal at the Worlds since his individual gold on the 10m platform in Rome six years ago. Gallantree, meanwhile, wins her first medal at the Championships having not gone better than sixth in previous years.

The other GB medal earned in Kazan so far was a bronze in the men's 3m synchro for Jack Laugher and Chris Mears.
