Tom Daley thrives on "competition pressure" after winning bronze medal

Tom Daley says that he enjoys the pressure of final-round dives after holding off Ivan Garcia to win a bronze medal at the World Swimming Championships.

Great Britain's Tom Daley has revealed that he thrived on the pressure of his final round dive which clinched him a bronze medal in the World Championships.

The 21-year-old was tied with Mexico's Ivan Garcia going into the final round of the men's 10m platform final, but beat him by 20 points to win the medal.

He told reporters: "I'm really happy with that bronze because I did make it as hard as possible for myself with that second dive. I've learned to persevere, stick at it and keep going because you never know what can happen in competitions.

"It came down to the last dive when we were on the same score but I quite like that competition pressure - I find it fun. I said to Jane [Figueiredo] before the last dive that this is what I like and this is the fun bit for me. I just knew whatever he did, I'd have to do it better."

China's Qui Bo won gold, ahead of America's David Boudia.
