A 17-year-old has been issued a harassment warning by police after an abusive message was sent to Team GB diver Tom Daley.

Dorset police said that the teenager has been bailed pending further investigations into his Twitter account.

Daley and partner Pete Waterfield finished fourth in the synchronised 10m platform diving yesterday, just missing out on a medal.

Shortly afterwards Daley retweeted a message saying: "You let your dad down i hope you know that."

Daley's father died of brain cancer last year.

The 18-year-old has been urged to a break from Twitter by officials. British Olympic Association chef de mission Andy Hunt has suggested that Daley refrain from Twitter use at least two days before competition.

However, Hunt claimed that Daley had not been affected.

He said: "I have met this morning with Tom's coach and some of the support staff.

"Tom isn't affected by it and the team are absolutely focused on getting ready for the next round of competition."

Daley will be competing next in the individual 10m event on August 10.
