BOA chief Andy Hunt claims that Tom Daley's British diving team will discuss whether or not the 18-year-old should close down his Twitter account following an abusive message.

British Olympic Association chief Andy Hunt believes that Tom Daley will consider closing down his Twitter account following the abuse he received after failing to clinch a medal in the synchronised event at the Olympics.

A user on the social network site sent the 18-year-old an abusive message which related to his late father, who died of cancer last year.

When asked if Daley may come off Twitter, Hunt said: "That is absolutely something that the coaching team will discuss with Tom.

"They need to make the decision based on what they've experienced over the past 24 hours. Everyone knows if you use social media extensively, you have to accept you get bad as well as good.

"Sometimes bad is wholly unacceptable, as we experienced last night, and that's been dealt with by the relevant authorities."

A 17-year-old man, who is believed to be behind the Twitter account of @Rileyy-69, has been arrested following the abusive messages.
