Tom Daley has described his performance in the preliminary round of Friday's 10m platform as his 'worst of the year' as he edged into the semi-finals of the competition.

With the top 18 going through, it took a successful final dive from the Brit to book his place in the next round.

"If I was going to have a bad competition today was the best to do it on," he told BBC Sport.

"It was definitely the worst I've dived all year so I will have to turn it around in the semi-final.

"It's nerve-wracking because you don't know what is going to happen, in my last dive it was now or never and thankfully I made it."

Daley's Team GB teammate Peter Waterfield could only finish 23rd as he exited the event.
