The 20-year-old and partner Victor Ortega were forced to withdraw from the competition after the fifth round, where Rios mistimed his reverse 3-1/2 somersault and entered the water flat on his back.

Chinese duo Chen Aisen and Lin Yue made it three wins from three for the season with a final score of 462.78, almost 30 points clear of the chasing pack.

Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez took silver for Mexico, registering a season-best score of 433.65 despite a disappointing 68.88 for their most ambitious dive, the inward 4-1/2.

Germany settled for bronze by the narrowest of margins as Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein posted a total of 433.02.
