Gary Anderson takes advantage of missing Premier League players to win Players Championship 7 against newcomer

Anderson back in winners circle with Players Championship 7 triumph

Gary Anderson has prevailed at Players Championship 7 to kick-start his 2025 season.

The two-time world champion went into Monday's event in Germany having failed to reach a quarter-final on any of his appearances this season.

However, taking advantage of the majority of the Premier League players missing this competition, Anderson showcased his quality to seal the title with an 8-3 win over newcomer Adam Lipscombe in the final.

After breezing through his opening four matches for the loss of just seven legs, Anderson overcame Krzysztof Ratajski and Mike De Decker to set up a clash with Lipscombe.

Despite the opening four legs being shared, Anderson kicked on from the fifth leg onwards, taking the closing four legs in 61 darts to come through in style.

Meanwhile, Lipscombe enjoyed the best day of his career, counting wins over the likes of Andy Baetens, Damon Heta and Dirk van Duijvenbode on his way to a first-ever final.

While Anderson has returned to the top 16 of the PDC Order of Merit, Lipscombe is already up to 91st place on the back of having recently earned his PDC Tour Card.

More woes for Van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen was the only Premier League participant in the field and he departed at the first hurdle, losing 6-3 to Germany's Niko Springer.

The Dutchman is now down in 70th spot in the Players Championship rankings and will be looking for an improved run on Tuesday.
