Peter Sagan wins first stage of Tour de France

Slovakian Peter Sagan triumphed in the first stage of the Tour de France on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, who turned professional in 2010, beat Swiss holder Fabian Mancellara and Norwegian Edvald Boasson to the finish line.

Favourite Philippe Gilbert registered a fourth-placed finish, while Britain's Bradley Wiggins finished outside the top four.

Despite the result, Cancellara has retained the overall race lead and the yellow jersey.
