Sir Bradley Wiggins to miss 2014 Tour de France

Wiggins to miss Tour de France

Sir Bradley Wiggins has revealed that he is unlikely to compete in this year's Tour de France for Team Sky.

The 34-year-old became the first Brit in history to win the yellow jersey in 2012, just a matter of weeks before clinching a gold medal for Great Britain at the London Olympic Games.

However, Wiggins has revealed that "as it stands" he will not be riding because Chris Froome, who won the Tour de France last year, will lead the team in this year's race.

"The team is focused around Chris Froome," Wiggins told BBC Breakfast. "I am gutted. I've worked extremely hard for this throughout the winter and up to the summer. I feel I am in the form I was two years ago.

"But I also understand that cycling is a team sport and it is all about Team Sky winning and Chris is defending champion."

The tour begins in Yorkshire on July 5.
