Pearson switches to hand-cycling for Rio

British Paralympian Josie Pearson has revealed that she intends to compete in the hand-cycling event at next year's Rio Paralympics.

The 29-year-old represented her nation as part of the wheelchair rugby squad at Beijing 2008 and later switched to athletics for the London Games three years ago.

Pearson won gold in the F51/52/53 discus, but has opted to switch sports again as the discus event is not part of the Paralympic programme for Rio.

"British Cycling approached me as part of the talent transfer programme and asked if I wanted to give it a go," Pearson told Wales Online.

"I jumped at the chance really and in the last two or three months I've been set up with British Cycling and I've done all the training and the tests. As of April 1, I've been involved with the team."

Pearson's gold medal was a result of a world-record throw of 6.58m.
