Team GB's Shane Sutton: "Our winning mentality is coming back"

Team GB's cycling technical director Shane Sutton believes that a "winning mentality" is starting to return to the squad.

Technical director Shane Sutton has insisted that the Great British cycling team has started to rediscover a "winning mentality".

The squad collected just two gold medals at February's World Track Championships, but they responded at the recent World Cup by winning four golds and a bronze.

When asked about the upturn in form, Sutton admitted that certain members of the team had grown complacent as a result of past triumphs.

"I think we'd lost our discipline. I think we got a little bit of complacency come into us, which was really evident in Colombia. I said there we needed to freshen up and we did. It was becoming Groundhog Day for a lot of people," he told British Cycling's official website.

"I've got to take my hat off to all the riders. At the end of the day, they're the ones that deliver. They probably don't need it, but they do want it. That's the most important thing. Seeing that want back in their eyes, that whole drive and passion kick back in is a nice thing. Colombia was a big learning towards that.

"Our winning mentality is coming back. We're not just relying on the women's team pursuit winning. We're getting there now and starting to get some results, which is nice. For me, Mexico was fantastic. Here, it's been good. I wouldn't say it's been great. But it is part of the building process."

Next up for Team GB is the final round of the World Cup in Colombia next month.
