Great Britain's Simon Yates has won gold in the men's points race at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Minsk, Belarus.

A late surge on the final lap saw the 20-year-old overcome the challenge of Spain's Eloy Teruel.

"When you've got a world jersey on the line you get that energy from somewhere," Yates told BBC Sport. "It's been a dream of mine."

Yates's gold medal is Britain's second at the tournament, adding to a silver and two bronze.
