Michael Rogers denies doping charge

Team Saxo-Tinkoff rider Michael Rogers blames contaminated meat for testing positive for clenbuterol.

Australian rider Michael Rogers has denied any wrongdoing after testing positive for clenbuterol.

Traces of the banned anabolic agent were found in samples he gave at the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race on October 20.

The 33-year-old, formerly of Team Sky, has exercised his right to an analysis of his B sample after claiming that he ingested contaminated meat in China.

"The Australian explained to the team management that he never ingested the substance knowingly nor deliberately and fears that the adverse analytical finding origins from a contaminated food source," read a statement from his team, Saxo-Tinkoff.

"Michael Rogers now has the opportunity to request an analysis of his B-sample. According to the team's Anti Doping policy, Michael Rogers is provisionally suspended with immediate effect."

Rogers could be banned for up to two years if he is found guilty.
