Sir Chris Hoy is the first cyclist to ride at the Glasgow velodrome.

Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has become the first person to ride at the new velodrome in Glasgow.

The new facility, named the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, will be one of the venues for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

After riding around the venue, Hoy told BBC Sport: "I have been fortunate to ride in the world's best velodromes and I can tell that this venue is going to be very special. It has a fantastic design and feels like it's going to be very fast."

Hoy helped design the new velodrome along with architect Ralf Schuermann.

The velodrome and National Indoor Sports Arena will be known as the Emirates Arena, and will open on Friday.
