Mark Cavendish withdraws from World Road Race Championships

Mark Cavendish withdraws from next week's UCI World Road Race Championships after failing to recover from a shoulder injury.

A shoulder injury has forced Mark Cavendish to withdraw from the upcoming UCI World Road Race Championships.

Cavendish sustained the injury during the sixth stage of the Tour of Britain, and after failing to train since the fall, the 30-year-old has opted to pull out of the race in Virginia.

Earlier this week, fellow British cyclist Geraint Thomas also withdrew after revealing that he did not feel "physically" ready to be competitive in the United States.
