Joanna Rowsell: 'I'm a master of getting it right when it matters'

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Joanna Rowsell believes that she is a "master" of peaking at the opportune moment on the track.

Team England cyclist Joanna Rowsell has claimed that she is a "master" of pulling results out of the bag when it matters.

The 25-year-old picked up her first Commonwealth Games gold medal this afternoon, beating Australian Annette Edmondson in the 3,000m individual pursuit final at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The reigning world champion set a new personal best and Commonwealth Games record in qualifying for the final, and she was delighted at having produced new benchmarks on both fronts.

"I think it was a bit cooler this afternoon for the final rides, but the qualifying ride was over a second off my personal best, which I set in Cali at semi-altitude," Rowsell told reporters.

"I'm really pleased to get a new PB and to get the Commonwealth record as well. That is really special. I think I'm a bit of a master at peaking at the right time - I always seem to get it right on the right day each year."

Rowsell won both the individual and team pursuits in this year's World Championships in Cali, Colombia, while she also picked up gold in the team event at the 2012 Olympics.
