Annie Last "really happy" with Commonwealth Games performance

Last "really happy" with CWG showing

Team England cyclist Annie Last has declared herself "happy" with her fourth-placed finish in today's Commonwealth Games women's cross-country event.

Despite a strong final lap which saw her overhaul teammate Alice Barnes, the 23-year-old - who has suffered with injury of late - was unable to edge into a medal position at Cathkin Braes Country Park.

"Unfortunately I wasn't in the shape I wanted to be in coming into this race," Last told BBC Sport. "I'm really happy to finish fourth."

Asked about the support received around the track, she added: "It's amazing to have this much support behind you - you just feel this huge atmosphere behind you pushing you forward."

Canada's Catharine Pendrel dominated the race from start to finish, taking gold with a full minute to spare.
