Victoria Pendleton: "Australia were just better on the day"

Double Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton has consoled Team England after Australia eased to gold in the 4,000m pursuit.

"Australia were just better on the day. It's all about peaking for the Olympics and these guys haven't trained together that long," Pendleton told BBC Sport.

"You win some you lose some, but there's plenty of competition left."

Despite Bradley Wiggins's best efforts, Australia rode home more than five seconds clear of Team England.
