Gale quits as Yorkshire one-day captain

Andrew Gale has stepped down as Yorkshire's one-day captain, with Alex Lees being placed in temporary charge of the 20 and 50-over sides.

Batsman Gale will still be available for selection in the shorter formats, but has decided to focus on leading the club in the County Championship.

The 31-year-old told reporters: "I feel it's beneficial for a fresh voice and new ideas in the shorter format of the game and with the current demands of the schedule I need to manage my body in preparation for Championship cricket.

"I've enjoyed every minute in leading the team, participating in the Champions League in South Africa was a highlight, along with reaching a one-day semi-final."

Fellow batsman Lees has been placed in temporary charge while the club decide on a long-term successor.

Yorkshire look set to retain their County Championship title, leading second-placed Warwickshire by 34 points, having played one game fewer than their nearest rivals.
