The Kolkata Knight Riders defeat the Delhi Daredevils by six wickets in their opening match of the Indian Premier League.

The Kolkata Knight Riders have beaten the Delhi Daredevils by six wickets in their opening match of the Indian Premier League at Eden Gardens.

Having lost the toss and been put into bat, the Daredevils made 128-10 from their 20 overs before the defending champions reached their target for the loss of four wickets and with eight balls to spare.

Mahela Jayawardene top scored for the visitors with 66 before he was caught by Sunil Narine off the bowling of Brett Lee.

David Warner was the only other Daredevil to make double figures with his knock of 21 ended by Narine, who took a further three wickets for a total of 13 runs.

The Knight Riders made light work of reaching their target with Gautam Gambhir (41), Jacques Kallis (23) and Manoj Tiwary (23) doing most of the damage.

Eoin Morgan (14) and Yusuf Pathan (18) were there at the end to make sure of the win.
