Mike Watkinson departs Lancashire

Mike Watkinson cites the need for a "new challenge" as his reason for stepping down as Lancashire's director of cricket.

Mike Watkinson has vacated his role as the director of cricket at Lancashire.

The former England all-rounder has been connected with the Red Rose for the last 32 years.

However, the 53-year-old has decided that the time is right for him to embark on a "new challenge".

"After enjoying a long and successful career at Lancashire, I am now looking forward to a new challenge and would like to wish all the players and staff at the club all the best for the future," he told the club's official website.

Watkinson made 308 first-class appearances for Lancashire.
