Madsen out for "next few weeks"

Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen has revealed that he will spend the "next few weeks" on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old has been forced to undergo surgery on the broken finger that he suffered during a County Championship clash against Northamptonshire earlier this month.

"It's difficult to say when I'll be back, it's all about getting the movement back. We're looking at a period of at least four weeks but I hope to be back playing in the not too distant future," he told the club's official website.

"I'm confident, however, that the side will play well in the next few weeks until I'm back fit and ready to play."

It has been suggested that South African batsman Hashim Amla will take over the skippering duties in Madsen's absence.
