Joe Root to captain Yorkshire

England's Joe Root will replace suspended skipper Andrew Gale for Yorkshire's match against Nottinghamshire.

Joe Root has been handed the captaincy for Yorkshire's vital County Championship clash against Nottinghamshire, which gets underway tomorrow.

Yorkshire go into the clash at Trent Bridge in the knowledge that if they avoid defeat, they will win the title for the first time in 13 years.

However, they will make the trip without the services of skipper Andrew Gale, who is suspended.

England batsman Root has returned from international duty, though, and the 23-year-old will take over the responsibility from Gale.

Root's international teammate Gary Ballance is also available for selection.
