Incoming England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves has revealed his intention to introduce a competition similar to the Big Bash when he begins his new role.
Graves will leave his post as Yorkshire chairman to begin his five-year term in May, and he believes that altering the county calendar to make way for a franchise Twenty20 competition should be considered.
"We can't ignore [the IPL and Big Bash]. It's been successful in India and Australia, so why shouldn't it be successful over here?" the new ECB chairman is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"We need to look at an English Premier League and fit it into the calendar.
"English cricket is at a crossroads and needs to change. Test match attendances are down, T20 hasn't been as successful as we'd hoped and the 50-over competition isn't bringing in the crowds. We need to look at the whole structure of the County Championship and how much cricket we're playing."
Graves has been executive chairman of county champions Yorkshire since 2012.
