Glen Chapple has stepped down as the captain of Lancashire.

The 40-year-old, who also coached the team last season, has been the skipper since 2009.

However, despite his decision to relinquish the captaincy duties, Chapple will remain available for selection, as well as being a part of Ashley Giles's coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Chapple, who has made one appearance for England at one-day international level, has scored 8,674 first-class runs, which has included six centuries.
