Former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif has apologised for his role in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.

The 30-year-old was hit with a five-year ban and a prison sentence after being found guilty of spot-fixing, but was released from jail in May 2012 after serving half of his 12-month sentence.

"I apologise for my actions that have brought disrespect to my beloved country, to the millions of fans in Pakistan and in the world," AFP quotes Asif as saying.

Asif was convicted along with former teammates Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir.
