Kent may not sign overseas player

Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford claims that the club may not sign an overseas player this season.

Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford has claimed that there are currently no plans in place to sign an overseas player this season.

The club announced a pre-tax profit of £1.25m for the year earlier this week, but despite being in a good position financially, the Division Two side are likely to stick with their current squad as they prepare for the new campaign.

"Fourteen of the 23 players are home-grown and I think some of those will go on to play for England," Clifford told BBC Radio Kent.

"If you can produce your own players rather than importing from overseas it puts you in a much stronger position.

"We are backing our players to go on and continue to make strides. That creates a sustainable culture around player development."

The only non-English player in the Kent squad is former West Indies batsman Brendan Nash, who is signed under a Kolpak registration.
