Ed McKeever "proud" of Great Britain call-up

Ed McKeever says that he is proud to have been selected as part of the Great Britain squad to take part in this summer's European Games.

Olympic champion Ed McKeever has expressed his delight at being named in the Great Britain squad to compete at the inaugural European Games this summer.

The 31-year-old won gold in the men's K1 200m race at London 2012 and will form part of the 153-strong squad to represent Team GB in Azerbaijan.

"I am proud to have been selected as part of Team GB again, this time at the European Games," he told GB Canoeing.

"This is a key competition for us just eight weeks out from the World Championships, which is a qualification event for Rio.

"Most of the world's top canoe sprint athletes come from Europe, so I am really looking forward to some fast racing and a chance to see how preparations are going."

In addition to his Olympic medal, McKeever has also claimed gold at the European Championships and the World Championships.
