Gilmour focused on Rio 2016 qualifying

Scottish badminton player Kirsty Gilmour has switched her attention to the qualifying campaign for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The 21-year-old, who will defend her singles title at the Swedish Masters in Uppsala from January 15 to 18, will begin her bid to reach Rio in May.

"My sights are set on Olympic qualifying beginning in May, but I have a few events in the meantime," the Daily Record quotes Gilmour as saying.

"I'm especially focused on the Yonex Scottish Nationals in Perth at the end of this month and then the European Mixed Team finals in Belgium from February 11 to 15."

At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer, Gilmour scooped silver after losing to Canada's Michelle Li in the singles final.
