Eight badminton players expelled

The eight badminton players that caused controversy during last night's women's doubles matches have been disqualified from the Olympic Games.

During the encounters, it appeared that the four teams were deliberately attempting to lose their matches in order to gain a more favourable draw in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The watching supporters voiced their displeasure at the players' actions, while former British champion Gail Emms also voiced her disgust.

After reviews of the matches, the octet have now been expelled from the tournament by the International Olympic Committee.

They include the Chinese pairing of Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang, who are the current world champions.

The other players that have been expelled are Jung Kyung-eun, Kim Ha-na, Ha Jung-eun, Kim Min-jung, Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii.
