Flannery through in 400m hurdles heats

Great Britain's Niall Flannery has produced a season-best time of 48.90s to reach the semi-finals of the men's 400m hurdles in Beijing.

Flannery, who is the Britain's sole representative after Jack Green pulled out of the event injured, produced a strong race to take second in the third heat, finishing behind Kerron Clement of the USA.

Meanwhile, Bershawn Jackson, who has a personal best of 47.30s, failed to qualify after faltering over the final stages to finish last in his heat.

Michael Tinsley, who won World Championships silver in Moscow two years ago, was beaten into second place in his heat by Kenyan Boniface Mucheru Tumuti.
