American athlete Carmelita Jeter claimed victory in the 100m race in the World Championship.
The 31-year-old, who is currently the fastest woman in the world, came away with bronze in the last two previous Championships.
"I have been working really very, very hard and today it paid off,” sportinglife.com quotes Jeter as saying.
"My coach showed me that I was ready to get the gold medal, to stop the Jamaican predominance in the sprint. Today, it is all about my coach John Smith."
Fellow American Veronica Campbell-Brown claimed silver while Trinidad and Tobago-born Kelly-Ann Baptiste came in third.
