Eaton still in control of decathlon

Ashton Eaton of the United States has moved a step closer to winning the gold medal in the decathlon at the London Olympics.

The 24-year-old competed in the 110m hurdles this morning, which was the sixth of 10 events.

Despite finishing second to compatriot Trey Hardee, who won in a personal best time of 13.54s, Eaton was right behind him in 13.56s.

As a result, Hardee was only able to to gain three points on Eaton in the overall standings.

Heading into the discus, Eaton had amassed 5,693 points, while Hardee had collected 5,476.

Canada's Damian Warner remained in third with 5,312 points.
